“The Secret” – Internet Mass Marketing Overdrive

April 17th, 2007

This morning, I wandered over to the MeetUp group that I run about the Law of Attraction. Since starting the group, I have seen an exponential increase in people marketing “the Secret” related affiliate programs. As I was looking over the message board today, there was a new message by a member (who really lives too far away to attend our meetups and upon futher investigation seems to have hit every LOA type message board on Meetup). He prefaced the post with “Warning: This message may be considered SPAM. On the other hand, you may believe what is written here will help you on your spiritual journey.” Um, yeah, in my book, that is spam. And if I had any doubt about it at all, that would have definitely helped me clarify things.

Since “The Secret” came out, I have seen some amazingly quick internet marketers put together packages that will help people apply the law of attraction effectively in their lives.

Do the products work?

Maybe. The success of anything has to be looked at on a person by person basis. The Law of Attraction does work if you really want to work at it and make the changes that are necessary.
Do you need all these Limited Time / Limited Quantity info products to do it?

Absolutely not! Though, if you believe the sales pitches, you may be convinced that the contrary is true.

I don’t object to the fact that people are supplying the missing pieces that The Secret didn’t supply. (Though I think Abraham-Hicks does an exceptionally fantastic job of it.) I certainly have no issue with the money that stands to be made through it all, in most cases, though $1,995 for a popular LOA marketing course seems a bit excessive especially for those who are just getting into the LOA swing of things.

My issue is with the opportunistic “get it now before it is gone and you lose out” marketing tactic of it all. What some these programs seem to use are shortage and time crunch as promotional tools. The universe is SO not that way. There is more than enough of EVERYTHING for EVERYONE.

If you don’t pay them for their product and you are one of the unlucky masses of people who didn’t get to their gems of advice, so what?! Does that mean that you will fail at learning how to make the Law of Attraction work for you. No Way! I guarantee you, if you put the law of attraction to work for you and focus on the belief that a teacher who is just right for you will appear, that is just what you will end up with.

On a more objective note, you will find many many products out there now, and many more in the near future, that will help you understand and implement the Law of Attraction. What I have found, in my journey to understand the law of attraction, is that I have made bigger leaps and bounds when I have been around people who are just as eager to make the Law of Attraction work for them as I am. For some, the study of the info products and books may work, but some people might just need contact with someone else who can give them one on one feedback about what is working and not working.

    Hey Vickie!

Wow, this is great! I wanted to share a great resource with everyone, Vickie shines a light on it by giving it attention, energy and focus and the law of attraction delivers…. big time!

Vickie, I read your blog and I was very entertained by your writing style. You need to write a book!

I had a couple of questions about your blog post and maybe I should be commenting over there, but I’ll say what’s on my mind here and hopefully we’ll get some traffic to your blog.

I, like you (and I assume everyone reading) is a student on a path towards conscious awakening and creation. Sure, I teach the law of attraction and practice it every day, but I’m obsessed about learning more about it and I like turning people on to what I’ve learned and the resources I’ve found.

You mention in your blog that there’s lots of free places on the net for learning about the law of attraction You forgot to mention my site borntomanifest.com which has lots of free articles and 10 free e-books on manifestation and the power of thought! ;o)

Sorry, there I go again spammin’ away!

Your blog also mentions Abraham-Hicks. The master! I have great respect for Esther, Jerry and Abraham. I really do. I have learned more about the law of attraction from Abe than anywhere else. I hope to attend the $195 workshop in Asheville next month. Gee, with all the millions the Hicks have made, you’d think those seminars would be free by now after 20 years of channeling… you know, books, cards, CDs and all that cool re-packaging Jerry has such a talent for.

Let me tell you why I got so excited about the Masters of the Secret Program I talked about yesterday. As I mentioned above, I am obsessed about learning all I can about the LOA.

Yes, there’s lots of free stuff out there. And if you think about it, there’s lots of free stuff available on any subject. However, the deeper you dig, expect to pay for the value you receive. The Secret DVD cost $30, and now a few bootlegs circulate cyberspace. Pirated Abraham audio and workbooks can be found too! My point is, somewhere along the feeding chain it took some money to produce something of value.

The same with the program I talked about yesterday. It took some money to put it together and it has great value to someone like me (and others) who are obsessed with learning as much as they can about the subject.

It was inspired by Bill Harris, one of the teachers in the Secret, when he did an interview and stated that the real steps to manifestation he talked about in his 90 minute interview from the movie was edited out.

Barry Goss, the ‘manifester’ of the Masters of the Secret interview/transcript package, put together over 20 hours of interviews on this ‘edited information’ with people like Joe Vitale, Dr. John DeMartini, Bob Doyle, Jack Canfield, James Ray, Mike Dooley and a host of others. Do you recognize any of the names? Of course you do! Teachers from the Secret and everyone mentioned was edited!

And please understand, if I had the opportunity I would give Rhonda Byrne a big kiss on the lips to thank her for what she has done for the consciousness of the world. What a wonderful gift to humanity!

But, the Secret is only part of the story. I found some more information on the LOA in Barry’s program and was excited to share it (and was rewarded for sharing it).

No, it’s not the $1995 program you talked about in your blog. That’s a program by Bob Proctor. Abe tells us there’s no difference in manifesting $1 or $1995. We get what we believe, don’t we.

I believe it’s ok to receive money-energy for value received. I get more value out of programs like Barry’s than what it cost me to go to college!!!

If you didn’t already generate an account for Barry’s program, go here:

You don’t have to be poor to be spiritual. Look at Esther and Jerry! They’ve got it made and that’s great, ain’t it? I mean, we all agreed that this paper we carry in our pockets and purses is worth something! I know the grocer, the electric company, the landlord, the phone company all think its worth something! ;o)

So, Vickie, I’m looking forward to your book. What do you think it will cost? Hey! I got an idea, I’ll trade you my book. That it, unless you find a bootleg of it out there.

    Peace, love and light,
    -Tom

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for moving this over there. I know that the program you were advertising didn’t cost the $1995. :) I said that money aspect of the programs didn’t bother me but that I thought $1995 for a program was a bit excessive (from another affiliate program that is being aggressively marketed online at the moment.)

As I said above, it’s not about the money people are making, but rather the way the programs are being marketed. They seem to be preying on people’s inability to figure it out on their own and using what, in my opinion, amounts to high pressure used car salesmen tactics.

“Buy now or you will never get a chance again” “Only available today!” “Buy at this price because tomorrow it will be 3 times the cost”

They don’t seem like they are very LOA inpiring tactics to me?

    Hi Vickie,

Fantastic post! If I may be blunt, I wanted to puke when I first saw that “$1995 to buy in” affiliate program; I think I’ve still got a draft post about it sitting around. I’m still working on using some “Art of Allowing” on that one. :)

I’m glad I found your blog! And hey, wait… you linked to mine! Thanks! :)

    Hey Tom,

I enjoyed so much reading your comments to Vickie. Thank you for sharing here. I am in agreement with you.

One thing I would like to share with Vickie as she said a few times that the Law of Attraction works if you work it…. and I would like to add that the Law of Attraction is a LAW and it is always working. We don’t have to “use” it or “make it work” for us. It’s just always there like gravity.

The trick is to know how it works and align ourselves with our true desires that we can purposely attract. Otherwise we are creating by default… and we don’t want that do we?

Also Tom, you mentioned Abraham’s Art of Allowing workshop in Asheville next month… and guess what… I’LL BE THERE!

I am from NC and I live in Michigan. My husband and I are taking a 2 week camping trip to NC about an hour from Asheville, so in perfect and Divine timing (or course), we saw that the workshps are being offered all weekend the 2nd weekend in May, so we are attending on Sunday, May 6.

Which day will you be here?

It will be so great to meet you! Please let me know and I’ll wear a red rose in my hair so you can find me. No, wait, I HAVE red hair so you can find me… lol.

Oh, and by the way, I have the program from Barry that you talked about and it is great.- and I am also IN that $1995 SGR progrm and it is fantastic.

I absolutely LOVE all this spiritual growth and development. I can just never get enough!

    Thanks for being YOU.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    In love and gratitude,

    Linda Miller

I’m going to be at the workshop too :) I am going to be there on Saturday. Anyone else going to be there on Saturday??

I was almost going to go, Vickie! A good friend of mine is going, and I was at travelocity just last month, figuring out air fare and hotels. It turned out that the Inn on Biltmore Estate was fully booked – which was lucky for me although at the time I was disappointed. I decided to wait a bit and see what the Universe would come up with … and two days later, my daughter found out the play in which she’s got a starring role was postponing its performance to the Thursday and Friday of that very weekend! So it turned out to be a very good thing that I couldn’t figure out hotel and flight.

But I’m planning on going to the one in October … :)

Great Post Vickie! The true Secret is you don’t need a book, a DVD, a coach, a program, or anything else. If you want some truly insightful, live-changing information, take 30 minutes a day and listen to the most intelligent being in your universe…YOURSELF!!!

    Stay Positive,

    Andy
