A member of the Meetup group posed some fabulous questions that have really made me think in order to articulate my thoughts on the matter.
I would love to hear what YOU think the definition of manifesting is. I am going to post the link to this blog on my reply to her so she can see what others think. She’s definitely on her way to great things because she SO wants to understand and be able to point downstream to what she desires.
The blocks in yellow are her comments.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

It would be hard to ask the questions in this form, because to clearly convey where I’m at, what I know already, etc would be hard. I think someone could respond at length about something I already know! In real time, that could be curtailed. So, the answer appears to be then, that this is something I must self-teach, and that is fine. I hoped that joining meetings about this would help me in this way, but so far, that doesn’t look like that’s how it’ll go for now. Things are revealed to us in their perfect time, so that’s ok.
Well, kinda sorta. Everyone has their own personal beliefs on how this all works. And that is great because there are many many ways to get to the same place. In reading up / studying on the things that others have / are studying, it makes it easier to ask VERY specific questions about what you are having a hard time understanding. For me, Abraham is my teacher of choice. Am I a expert / scholar on what they teach? Absolutely not. My understanding of what they say could be drastically different from the next person but my view could be the one that makes the light bulb go on for someone. It really depends on how you best learn. Some need the research material and some don’t. Some people just get it through trial and error. I was one who need the materials first and then did the trial and error and STILL have the learning materials
I’ll try one question:
I’m not sure what is considered “manifesting”. I may already be doing this and not identifying it. I thought of it one way, but sometimes I hear of it coming across as another way. I thought of it as causing something that you want to happen, happen. That you would say specific words (with careful word choices), for example “I will manifest $5000 by October, 31, 2007″ is that something you ask for, then wait and it comes to you? or is that something you ask for because you have a good idea that can happen, and then when it does, you call it manifesting?
Good question. In my opinion, it is all manifesting. You identify what you want, focus on it, and have it appear. The two examples that you gave just seem to have differing levels of dramatic intensity associated to them.
It is getting what you think about. It works for both positive and negative things in your life. Even the mundane things that you have happen in your life are manifestations of thoughts. The wording is important, but even more important is the feeling behind the desire. Ultimately, you have to believe that it CAN happen or it won’t happen. In the example of $5000 by October, if you can give up the who, what, why, when, where, & how of the manifestations and just have it as a given that it will happen, it will. BUT how many people do that on a regular basis? Not many. They get hung up in the details of it and noticing that it isn’t here yet and end up slowing down the process.
If someone asked for that ($5000), but knew, for example, there were at least a few ways that could happen, then I don’t think they “manifested” it - I think it would have happened anyway, but now they call it manifesting and get some thrill from that.
Hmmm, well I think all things are possible with the Law of Attraction if you focus in the correct way. I know that I could manifest $5000 if I wanted to and I do know that there are many many ways that it could come to me. If it is something I don’t currently have and I put my mind to it and it appears, then, to me that is manifesting even though for me, I know it will come. It’s all about getting focused in a positive way with excitement and being able to stop the negative self talk that happens when you reach beyond your comfort zone what what you want to manifest in your life.
I’ve heard some say they got this car or house or whatever, but if they are house hunting or have it in their mind to buy a car, it’s going to happen anyway, they didn’t manifest it, they decided they wanted something and they went and got it.
See, what is missing from this is the details surrounding it. You focus on what you want and circumstances line up to help it manifest. It is a matter of knowing exactly what you want and thinking about it and loving it even though it isn’t there yet. Waiting in anticipation for it to appear. I believe that I manifested my house. Was I looking for a house? Absolutely. I put to paper exactly what I was looking for and revisited many times over a year’s time period. My husband and I spent many months visiting houses that were up for sale before it was time to buy. The house that we ultimately bought had just recently had a huge drop in price that put it right in the dollar range that we were willing to pay. Looking back over the list http://www.contemplatethis.com/archives/61 there is a huge amount on my list that did turn out exactly as I intended.
*Laugh* My husband asked what I was doing and I told him. He agrees with your take on this.
I believe in the magic of it all and the excitement of it all. The excitement of it all gives what I want more power to come into being. I think I will keep on my “life is amazing and I am directing it” point of view. Life is SO much more fun to me that way.
To me it seems like people will set goals, and they go after their goals - that’s just what you do. If I want a house, I’m going to find a way to get it - that’s being resourceful, determined, tenacious, persevering, etc - that’s not manifesting, yet I hear those kinds of stories being called manifesting.
But, you can have it be a difficult journey to the house with a lot of work and persevering or you can make plans and be open to the things that universe is shooting your way. The synchronicity of things that happen around you that will make the manifestation of what you want so much more easy, fun, and quick to appear. If you think it is going to take a lot of work to get what you want, it will take a lot of work. If you think that things will just sort of work out, and you will get what you desire, you will be inspired to decisions that will make the manifestation quicker and easier.
So as I said in the beginning, maybe I’m already manifesting and didn’t realize it, if this is the correct meaning of the word. Is manifesting just another label for getting something through perseverance? I thought it was something different, from how I understood it from The Secret. i thought it was like a catalog of things that the universe has - everything already exists, it’s all there, and all I have to do is believe that (which I do, I understand the “everything is energy” and universal energy and all things exist, etc) and if I believe that, then I name what I want and presto - it is manifested. But no, I have to put a time to it.
You have to put the desire out there and really put the details into the desire and get excited about it and know that it is going to come. Impatience and doubt will thwart the manifestation very quickly. I never put a time frame on things because it has a tendency to put pressure on you. Pressure to have something manifest is always counter productive in my opinion. If you can put a time limit on it and stay up to speed with the positive excited vibration that should surround it, it could work. It really has a lot to do with belief, faith that it will happen.
The time, I think, is part of the goal a person set to accomplish what they want to accomplish. People set goals and do them. I will keep my car another year, and then I’ll look for a new one, because this car is getting high in mileage, and in another year, it’ll be time to get a new one. So I set that goal, and that time, for that reason. So when that happens, do I get to say I manifested something and it happened!!! Like some magical thing happened, when I made it happen.
But was it the exact car you wanted in that perfect color with all the bells and whistles at the exact amount you were willing to pay with surprise rebates?
It is the details surrounding the goal you have that make manifesting so much fun in my opinion.
The topic of manifesting and attracting is all being made way to complicated. Life is supposed to be fun. If it isn’t, then you need to re-evaluate how you are thinking. Life IS good and it isn’t supposed to be such a struggle. I, for one, am so glad that I have given up the need to prove my worth to anyone. I am worthy
and everything that I could possibly desire, now and in the future, is mine for the having should I decide I want it and am able to focus on in a down stream manner.

I’ve come to realize that manifesting is way different than physically doing efforts to cause a desire to be earned. We don’t receive it because we earned it. The Universal energies are in place for us to gain in spiritual levels, to be Creators of our experiences. Free will, our thoughts with intention and desires are what causes us to receive them in our reality. Sure, if your basing your intentions and you have this thought on receiving a newer vehicle and you place an intentional thought along with it that says, you have to work for it before you receive it, than surely that is what will happen. You Created that intention, with that next intention tagged right onto it. And this is not necessary. I have seen an individual who wished he could receive a small sized SUV, he knew nothing of The Law of Attraction, and by God one day he was at a local convenience store and a man pulled up, he was having car trouble and hadn’t had the time to get it fixed. His son was heading to a dirt bike tournament. The man was so mad at the vehicle he asked if this man watching (the wisher) would be willing to buy this SUV for 150 dollars. Of course he said yes, the man mailed the title to him once he made it back to his home state. He was out nothing, he received what he asked for, and he didn’t earn it, or did anything spectacular to deserve it, he just asked and it was given. This is manifesting, to receive what was asked for without any effort intended on your part.
