I’ve been meaning to write up this post for QUITE a while now. Lyman’s post today, has spurred me on to finally do it.
Affirmations. Everyone knows about them. They sound like a great idea, but how many of us actually stick with it and see measurable results? Not many is my guess. When you don’t have something and you say, over and over again, that “I am” something that you are not, it just doesn’t feel right after a while.
It goes something like:
“Money comes to me easily and effortlessly.”
and then your brain pipes up:
“What about all these bills?”
“Nothing has changed.”
“This isn’t working.”
and so on.
When I went to the Andy Dooley workshop a while back, one of the things that he talked about was 2 magic words, beginning and becoming.
Just tweaking your affirmations, a small bit, with the addition of one or both of these words, makes them so much more palatable. Your brain doesn’t squawk nearly as much as it does when you are affirming something that currently isn’t your reality.
For example:
If you are having money issues, saying “Money comes to me easily and effortlessly.” doesn’t mean diddly squat and most likely just ramps up your vibration about the lack you are currently experiencing.
But, if you say “Money is beginning to come to me easily and effortlessly”, it feels like it is a process in the right direction. It feels better than making an absolute statement that, at the moment, is not true.
Let’s say you are trying to build up your self-esteem. Saying “I am confident in social situations” warrants an instant “Yeah, right. Not likely!” If you tweak that and change it into “I’m beginning to feel confident in social situations” or “I’m becoming more confident in social situations” then it softens the resistance to the affirmation considerably.
If you think about it, affirmations, if phrased the correct way, are very much in line with one of the Abraham processes in Ask and It Is Given.
Process #12 – Wouldn’t It Be Nice If…?
When you say, “I want this thing to happen that hasn’t happened yet,” you are not only activating the vibration of your desire, but you are also activating a vibration of the absence of your desire — so nothing changes for you. And often, even when you do not speak the second part of the sentence and you say only, “I want this to happen,” there is an unspoken vibration within you that continues to hold you in a state of not allowing your desire.
But when you say, “Wouldn’t it be nice if this desire would come to me?” you achieve a different sort of expectation that is much less resistant in nature.
Your question to yourself naturally elicits from you a more positive, expectant response. And so, this simple but powerful game will cause a raising of your vibration and an improvement in your point of attraction because it naturally orients you toward the things that you want. The Wouldn’t It Be Nice If…? Process will help you let in the things that you have been asking for, on all subjects.
Ask And It Is Given – p 226
So, if you have given up on affirmations, maybe a little tweaking is all you need!

You know what, Vickie… I never actually thought of that!
After reading Money and the Law of Attraction, I found the “What If Up” club on Ning – http://whatifup.ning.com – which teaches an almost identical idea to the process you just mentioned – but I never thought about that as working with an affirmation.
Thanks for the clarity!
I have a suggestion to make. You can also use the word ‘allow’. Here is the example: “I allow myself to be healthy.” or “I allow myself to attract money easily and effortlessly.”
Thank you. I have just begun my journey with the teachings of Abraham. I attempted the journey two years ago, but I just wasn’t ready. Your post was exactly what I needed to read as I start my day. Simply put, it just felt good.
Fantastic post Vickie!
I think many of us need to hear this over and over. I personally do not do affirmations too often, but I have gotten pretty good at intentions (Abraham’s segment intending) It goes along the same line as one has to be conscious in their daily thoughts, actions and words for either to work.
Anyhow, it is great to meet another fan of Abraham Hicks, pop over to Evolving Beings when you get a chance, over a week ago I went to see them in person an it was fabulous, so I have been writing a little about the experience and lessons.
I needed to read this today: “The Wouldn’t It Be Nice If…? Process will help you let in the things that you have been asking for, on all subjects.” Thank you!
I really like what Marisa said about using the word “Allow”. I think some of us get stuck in the ‘I am not worthy/I’m gonna eat worms’ mindset and we convince ourselves we ae not good enough to receive what we’re trying to manifest.
Very interesting to use ‘beginning’ in an Affirmation regarding money. I find a lot of clients have problems with money Affirmations and feel they are ‘lying’ to themselves. Another point re lying, we are not actually lying as the money already exists in the Universe. However, it can be difficult to get people to understand this, so using the word ‘beginning’ will make it easier for people to grasp the concept.
